Epic August

August 29, 2008

August is probably one of the best months to live in Phoenix. Sure, if you’re heat sensitive or like to whine a lot, Phoenix is not the place for you. But besides being centrally located to some of the finest places American Southwest, if not the world, Phoenix is home to some absolutely incredible thunderstorms. Tonight, August 28, 2008 we had one of the best lightning storms I can remember.

I’ve put together some video I took while I was out trying to photo graph the storm from my driveway…The video is on youtube, available here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYn1BRhEBxs

I’ve also posted my 5 favorite shots from tonight.

Anonymous: As I lay dying? from you, really? I wanted to ask how long you left your shutter open for those shots? If anyone epileptic was driving last night... dead. psst... the lord is awesome. pass it on. -matt

Anonymous: It's funny Jason, but I actually think that the beat of the first song, (A Violent Reaction by American Head Charge if I am correct) sometime in synchrony with the lightning strikes. I guess it is coincidence but it actually make the video even more enjoyable. Yeahh, that night was crazy, we had hale and wind too on my side of town. As for the five picks what I like in the last picture is that the puddle on the lower right corner has a greenish tone. Is that the pure shot or manipulated? Either way, gives a cool contrast to the deep blue of the sky. And I also love the one where the lightning strikes seem to come from the trunk of the palm trees. Looks cool with the grayish clouds. Great job. Hopefully did not get your cameras too wet out there.
